According to the decision, proposed by a standing Croatian-Slovene
commission and a sub-commission for fishing, Croatian and Slovene
fishermen will be able to catch fish in the area between Umag and
Ancaran, namely above 45 degrees, 23 minutes latitude north and
below 45 degrees, 35 minutes latitude north.
All fishermen with residence or registered companies in the area
will be able to fish there, and both countries' fishermen will catch
fish in line with regulations of their country.
The regime also stipulates a joint surveillance service and other
technical details. It should become effective on September 23,
after being adopted by both governments.
Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan and his Slovene counterpart
Janez Drnovsek reached a principle agreement on a temporary fishing
regime in Zagreb on September 10.
