MOSTAR, Sept 10 (Hina) - The Hague-based war crimes tribunal will
conduct an investigation into 20 active policemen from
Herzegovina-Neretva Canton suspected of war crimes committed in
1992 and 1993, president of the Canton Court in Mostar Castimir
Mandaric confirmed on Tuesday. #L#
Mandaric explained that the Mostar Canton Court would not be able to
issue certificates of no police record as a result of the possible
investigation which is required by the International Police Task
Force in Bosnia (IPTF) for the purpose issuing police ID cards. That
means that the IPTF could prevent them from continuing their
employment in the police.
Court officials who wished to remain anonymous, said that the
confidential list of suspected war criminals in the Hague contains
the name of several hundred active policemen from both Bosnian
entities. As the court officials explained, the suspects could be
deprived of further employment in the police before the end of the
year until the credibility of their identities is confirmed.
