The conversation also addressed other moves necessary to calm the
situation between the two countries in the wake of border-related
incidents in the northern Adriatic's Piran Bay, read the
statement.
The two officials finally agreed that Drnovsek would visit Zagreb
on Sept. 10.
Joras is a Slovene citizen who disputes Croatian sovereignty in his
place of residence, Mlini, a Croatian village close to the Slovene
border. Seven misdemeanour proceedings were held against him since
1999, but he ignored them all, refusing to pay fines. He was
arrested on Aug. 21 and taken into custody in Pula to serve a 30-day
prison sentence.
He has been on hunger strike for two weeks.
Drnovsek told reporters on Wednesday that Joras's release would
facilitate Croatia-Slovenia relations.
