No-one was hurt in the incident, however, 12 private vehicles were
damaged, of which seven with foreign registration plates. Windows
on Srzic's house were also shattered.
The most extensive damage was caused to a vehicle owned by a Belgian
citizen currently on vacation with friends on the Adriatic. After
contacting the Belgian Embassy, the foreigners decided to leave
Makarska.
Other car owners whose cars were damaged in the incident have
decided to continue with their vacations.
Damages caused to the vehicles will partially be paid for by the
City Leadership and a reward of 6,750 euros has been offered to
anyone who can give any leads to the discovery of the perpetrator,
Makarska Mayor Ante Novak told journalists, sharply condemning
this terrorist attack.
Deputy Mayor Sinisa Srzic said that the attack had nothing to do
with politics but was a targeted attack by various interest groups
or individuals who were in conflict with the law and the town
located under Mt. Biokovo who did not want rule of law but
lawlessness.
The Inter-Party Makarska Council stated that the terrorist attack
on the home of Sinisa Srzic was an assassination attempt not only
against the deputy mayor and Makarska city authorities, but a shot
at all Makarska residents.
The explosion last night has threatened the security of Makarska
citizens and tourists, and the Council demands that the police
guarantee security to citizens and tourists and find the person
responsible for the attack.
Guests staying at the Meteor Hotel, which is located some two
hundred metres from the incident site and is accommodating some 550
mostly foreign guests, were not disturbed by the explosion nor have
any guests left the hotel, the hotel's management said. The same is
at Hotel Dalmacija, some three hundred metres away from the
explosion, where about 430 guests are vacationing, mostly
foreigners.
