A statement issued by the county's public relations service says
that the three-hour meeting contributed to improving cooperation
between county officials and non-governmental organisations.
Recently there has been some misunderstanding and confrontations
between representatives of the HHO and Medjimurje County officials
in connection with the status and rights of the Romany,
particularly after 57 Romany children sued the Education and Sports
Ministry, the county, and four primary schools for alleged
educational neglect and segregation.
The latest population census indicates there are 9,463 Romany in
Croatia, including 2,887 or 30.5 percent living in the Medimurje
region.
