Last weekend members of the State Border Service in BH were
compelled by the U.N. to withdraw from the check point near Hrvatska
Kostajnica and back off some 50 metres towards BiH.
The Council of Ministers on Monday estimated that not one side
should add to deteriorating the situation until an agreement is
reached on contentious issues relating to the inter-state border
crossing, Minister for Civil Affairs and Communications in the
Council of Ministers in BiH Svetozar Mihajlovic stated. He called
on local government authorities and the population to refrain from
reacting and aggravating the situation before a solution is found.
The Council of Ministers concluded that before its next session on
July 25, it would prepare a proposal on the joint border crossing
between Bosanska and Hrvatska Kostajnica. The proposal will
contain a solution with a clear micro-location for a temporary
border crossing.
The Council of Ministers concluded that it would also prepare a
protocol on a final solution for that border crossing with support
infrastructure which includes the construction of a bypass, a
statement said. Mihajlovic said that the Bosnian side was open to
other solutions that would be acceptable to the citizens of both
countries. All contentious issues in this regard will be resolved
by the Council of Ministers and other relevant state bodies in co-
operation with the international community, Mihajlovic added.
"The resolution to the issue of the border crossing at Kostajnica
presents the realisation of the Agreement on the Border between BiH
and Croatia and the agreement to implement that agreement which was
signed in 1999, Mihajlovic explained.
