"Despite some comments following Slovenian President Milan Kucan's
visit in Sarajevo, the Slovenian government's view remains
unchanged regarding the guarantees for the deposits in the accounts
(of the said bank)," read the statement.
This issue will be settled by successors to the Socialist Federal
Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY), with mediation of the Basel-based
Bank for International Settlements (BIS), in compliance with the
framework succession treaty, signed in Vienna last year, the
statement read.
On Thursday, after his talks with top Bosnian officials, Slovenian
President Kucan said he would propose to the Janez Drnovsek Cabinet
that the issue of 250 million German marks, which the Ljubljanska
Bank in Sarajevo owed to its depositors prior to the collapse of the
said Yugoslav federation, should be treated through bilateral
negotiations between Slovenia and Bosnia.
