ZAGREB, July 9 (Hina) - The Liberal Party (LS) does not believe in an
early election and if the Government is convened on certain
principles, it has a chance of completing its mandate, president of
the LS, Zlatko Kramaric said on Tuesday following his consultation
with Croatian President Stjepan Mesic about the new prime minister
designate and the new government to be convened. #L#
The new prime minister designate should define what the future
coalition will be like - whether this will be a coalition of
political parties or some ad hoc set up benches. This is one of the
principles the LS will insist upon.
In response to a question whether Croatian Social Liberal Party
(HSLS) MPs who, despite their party's leadership, supported the
current government should be allowed to participate in the new
government, Kramaric said that they should, on par to their
numbers.
He added that he believed it was inadmissible that a party can have
two benches because this was not possible according to the Sabor
Rule Book. It is one thing to support the government and another to
give support to hold on to one's position in the Government,
Kramaric said adding that a government convened on this basis would
not be able to last long and that this could be the cause of new
crises.
He also said that now was not the time to decrease the number of
ministries because this would require changes to the Law on the
Government which would once again mean that the Government would
once again have to deal with itself.
