The final decision of the validity of Abdic's candidacy will be made
by the Electoral Commission before the end of the month by when it
should check all the other candidates, however, Korac did not leave
much room for doubt with regard to the chances for the former leader
in Velika Kladusa.
The court file does not have evidence that Fikret Abdic voluntarily
surrendered. On the contrary, there are documents that indicate
that he was arrested following a warrant issued by the Rijeka Court,
Korac said.
In keeping with the Bosnian Electoral Law, not one person against
whom charges have been laid for war crimes or who did not surrender
voluntarily to the court, can be a candidate at elections.
The general election in Bosnia this year will be held on October 5
and to date 8,100 candidates have registered.
Abdic, accused of war crimes he committed in north-western Bosnia
when troops loyal to him fought against the Army of Bosnia-
Herzegovina, is being tried in Croatia as he holds dual
citizenship.
