The Indian official said they had discussed several issues
important for the cooperation, including their views on the fight
against terrorism. Joshi added that the Indian delegation asked for
Croatia's support to India's bids to become a permanent member of
the UN Security Council.
After its stay in the Croatian capital, the Indian delegation,
which is on a four-day visit to Croatia, is to travel to the biggest
coastal city of Split.
Joshi said his country was interested in enhancing the economic
cooperation with Croatia.
Sabor President Tomcic added that one possibility for the promotion
of the cooperation would be the use of the biggest Croatian seaport
of Rijeka for the transport of Indian goods towards markets of
Central and Eastern Europe. The shipbuilding is another field where
the two countries can cooperate very well.
The bilateral trade in 2001 was balanced but came to modest 45
million dollars. The two countries have so far signed six bilateral
agreements and are to conclude another three on the avoidance of
double taxation, extradition and tourist cooperation.
