The 20th century was a century of the gravest violence in human
history, because many believed, despite the development of
technology, that war is the only way to achieve goals, the Dalai-
lama said during the lecture "Ethics for the New Millennium".
In the 21st century, one should strive towards a world without
armies, which requires both internal and external disarmament,
said the Dalai-lama, calling for the spiritual change, peace and
love, which he said was the only way to bring peace to all people,
regardless of colour, race or religion.
Of the more prominent officials of the city authorities, the
president of the Split City Council, Petar Krolo, was the only one
to attend the lecture.
The lecture was held under the Tibetan flag, which prompted a
Chinese reporter to ask why the Chinese flag was not displayed.
Earlier today, the Dalai-lama met with representatives of the
city's scientific, cultural, and religious life at a reception at
Split's Croatian National Theatre. The Dalai-lama will visit
Zagreb tomorrow.
