SARAJEVO, July 1 (Hina) - Two million convertible marks (1 euro =
1.95 KM) was collected at a donor conference held on Monday in
Sarajevo in an effort to motivate the speedier return of refugees to
Srebrenica. #L#
The conference with the motto "Let's support the sustainable return
to Srebrenica" was organised by the B-H Federation Ministry for
Refugees and attracted mostly succesful companies and business
banks from the entire world.
The greater part of Bosnian Muslims who survived the horrific
massacre against their people committed in 195 by Bosnian Serbs,
seven years later are still waiting to return to their pre-war
homes.
Of some 28 thousand exiled Bosnians from Srebrenica, to date only
about 1,600 have managed to return to their homes and another four
thousand have registered and are waiting for assistance to return
to their homes.
The mini-donor conference was held in the shadow of a recent scandal
that showed that a great deal of international aid forwarded to
reconstruct Srebrenica was spent most irrationally.
An example indicates that the reconstruction of some houses cost
three times more than could be expected.
The Chairman of the B-H Presidency, Beriz Belkic emphasised that
Srebrenica refugees needed to be aware of everything that is given
towards Srebrenica and exactly how it is spent, partiularly an
amount of 28 million euros donated by the Dutch government.
