ZAGREB, June 28 (Hina) - Premier Ivica Racan on Friday refused
allegations that his Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian
Peasant Party (HSS) had made a political deal "about wheat and the
Krsko nuclear power plant". #L#
"The ratification of the agreement on the Krsko plant is in
Croatia's national interest, just as the reform in agriculture is.
I dismiss allegations that this was a political swap between the SDP
and HSS involving wheat and the plant," Racan said in a statement
which the government's office forwarded to Hina.
"Such ill-intentioned interpretations could be understood as a
wish to continue discrediting the coalition government through
cacophonous views and conflicts," the statement read.
Some media on Friday cited rumours from the parliament's lobbies
that Premier Racan ensured the votes of the HSS deputies for the
ratification of the Krsko agreement promising them to earmark 2.6
billion kuna (356,000 euros) of state funds for farming incentives.
Another government's concession is a decision by the Ivica Racan
Cabinet to set the price of one kilogram of wheat at one kuna
(EUR0.13)
