Granic on Wednesday received the director for South Eastern Europe
at the British Foreign Office, James Bevan. #L#
Granic briefed Bevan about Croatia's science reform, the beginning
of the state administration reform, the completion of the military
and police reform, and major interventions in the judiciary.
The British official supported the reforms, saying it would take a
long time before citizens were able to feel their benefits.
Granic said there were no more difficulties in Croatia's
cooperation with the Hague-based UN war crimes tribunal, adding
that it relied on mutual trust.
Bevan said the British government appreciated everything Croatia
had done to establish good relations with the tribunal, as well as
everything it was doing to have war crimes prosecuted at national
courts.
Talks also addressed refugee property restitution and refugee
returns. Granic stressed the importance of creating conditions
which will enable all Croatian Serbs to return when they wish to. He
hoped a new law on national minorities, which is being drawn up,
would facilitate the exercising of their rights.
