Picula said that Croatia had given up on a 12-million-dollar
project in Iran due to pressures from the USA. However, Picula said,
Americans immediately offered a compensatory agreement worth 10
million US dollars.
Picula reiterated Croatia was the United State's ally.
Commenting on Croatia's relations with the Russian Federation,
Picula said that Russia was increasingly interested in investing
into Croatia. He stressed the strategic importance of the
DruzbAdria oil pipeline.
Croatia's Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Hido Biscevic, who
also attended the committee meeting, announced the signing of an
agreement on the repayment of a part of Russia's clearing debt to
Croatia for August 1. The value of the debt is 500 million dollars.
According to Biscevic, the part of the debt would be paid through
the participation of a Russian company in the mine-clearing process
in Croatia.
At the closed part of the session, the committee will vote on
suggestions to appoint Croatian ambassadors to Great Britain and
the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Josko Paro has been nominated as ambassador to Great Britain, and
Vladimir Matek as ambassador with the OSCE.
