HINA Zagreb, 22 June 2002CROATIAN PRESIDENT MAKES ADDRESS ON OCCASION OF ANTI-FASCISM DAYZAGREB, June 22 (Hina) - On the occasion of Anti-Fascist Struggle Day, which is marked in Croatia on June 22, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic
said the day was very important for the country. On that day, a group of organised patriots went to defend their country from the aggressor, Mesic said recalling June 22, 1941, when the first anti-fascist unit in Croatia and Europe was formed in the Brezovica woods, near the central town of Sisak. Croatia was created on the foundations of that struggle, first as a federal unit and then as a free and independent state, Mesic said for Croatian Television. "On this day we can remember all those who gave their lives for the freedom from fascism, which was the greatest threat in Europe and the world," Mesic said.CROATIA MARKS 61ST ANNIVERSARY OF SET-UP OF FIRST ANTI-FASCIST UNITBREZOVICA/SISAK, June 22
