Saturday, after the Croatian squad came from a goal down. Croatia, which placed third at the 1998 finals, lost its opening game to Mexico. Mirko Jozic's team, however, shocked the Italians with goals from substitute Ivica Olic in the 73rd minute and from Milan Rapaic in the 76th. Italy opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Christian Vieri scored his third goal of the tournament. Italy and Croatia both have three points in group G in which Mexico (three points) play Ecuador (none) on Sunday. The Croatian team was congratulated on its victory by President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivica Racan, and Deputy PM Drazen Budisa.
