Mesic and Ashdown spoke about the situation in the region, especially about the necessity of a joint fight against organised crime and terrorism. "We agreed that the key issue is to establish a rule of law, that is, to secure the functioning of the rule of law in the entire region," Mesic told reporters after the meeting. Ashdown stressed that he and Mesic agreed completely that the struggle against terrorism was a regional problem in which all states should participate if they want to solve the issue effectively.
