President Mesic expressed satisfaction with the progress of UNESCO
projects in Croatia.
The UNESCO Director-General expressed fascination with Dubrovnik
which he visited on Tuesday. Dubrovnik is one of the six Croatian
cities on UNESCO's world heritage list.
Matsuura also visited Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
A spokesperson for the President's Office said the UNESCO Director-
General was satisfied with the pace of reconstruction of Mostar's
Old Bridge, which Croatia has been helping rebuild together with
other countries and organisations. He also said that the
reconstruction of Sarajevo was a little slower.
Bosnia-Herzegovina does not have a single town on the UNESCO world
heritage list, however, Mostar hopes to be included. Matsuura
expressed readiness to support the city's nomination.
