The chairman of Lura's supervisory board and majority owner, Luka
Rajic, said the company was entering a new phase during which it
would develop into a regional food producer.
"We have been considering development options over the past several
months," Rajic said, adding he had decided to remain the company's
majority owner. Linking with strategic partners in the remaining
minority ownership shares, including further acquisitions in the
food industry, both in Croatia and abroad, remains a possibility,
he said.
The company's total revenues in 2001 amounted to 1.68 billion kuna,
or 18.8 percent more than the year before. Spending totalled more
than 1.5 billion kuna, an increase of 18.7 percent. Sales income
rose by 17.9 percent to 1.6 billion kuna as a result of the growth of
sales of almost all products on the domestic and foreign markets.
Last year Lura made 200 million kuna worth of investments,
primarily in the automation and improvement of quality of the
production process, including factories in Bjelovar and Zagreb, as
well as in the acquisition of a non-alcoholic drinks factory and
development of the distribution network in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The purchase of milk from domestic producers increased by around
seven percent, to 203 million litres of milk, which accounts for
almost 90 percent of all milk processed last year.
