BELGRADE, June 8 (Hina) - Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica on
Saturday strongly criticised the UN war crimes tribunal at The
Hague for not reacting to some witnesses' statements which accused
him of "having led some paramilitary units" in Kosovo. #L#
In the trial against former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic
for crimes committed in Kosovo, some Kosovo Albanian witnesses said
that Serbian politicians had had their paramilitary units which
they sent to Kosovo, including the incumbent head of state.
"Whenever I think that... the Hague tribunal can no longer surprise
me, reality proves me wrong," Kostunica told the Tanjug news
agency.
He said the only time he held a weapon in his hands had been during
his military service.
Kostunica maintained that the Yugoslav council for cooperation
with the UN tribunal and the new democratic authorities, regardless
of internal relations, should most resolutely react to the
dangerous claims made in The Hague.
There is no possibility that "the collective Serb guilt might be
proved" at The Hague, he said.
