The process of DNA identification was explained by a forensic
expert from Zagreb, Milovan Kubat.
The round table was also addressed by the head of the government's
office for detained and missing war veterans. "Croatia is still
tracing 1,349 Homeland War victims," he said.
Grujic explained that DNA analysis played a key role in the
identification of exhumed remains. He also reminded that 3,100
persons were reported as gone missing during the war eight years
ago.
Grujic said Croatia held around 250 talks about missing persons
with Yugoslav representatives. One of the results has been the
hand-over of around 1,000 documents about people buried in eastern
Croatia's Vukovar area. These documents were fundamental for
exhumations as well as identification, he said.
