RACAN: CROATIA MUST ATTRACT INVESTORS WITH GOOD PROJECTS

WASHINGTON, June 6 (Hina) - Croatia must offer good projects to US investors, who can count on the support of the US Exim bank, Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan said in Washington on Wednesday evening. He added that the support of the World Bank would be granted under the same conditions. #L# Racan made the statement following a meeting with the president of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn, and the president of the Exim bank, Eduard Aguire. Croatia's cooperation with the World Bank is good, which is proven with 20 projects that are being implemented, Racan said. The meeting with Wolfensohn focused on possible new projects in the privatisation and restructuring of the Croatian economy. Racan said that talks with Aguire were important because of the Exim bank's role in providing guarantees and support for US companies in business deals abroad. The premier believes that the Exim bank will support some projects in the shipbuilding industry and agriculture. He said that concrete talks on cooperation in those projects would start as early as this summer. The premier yesterday also attended a working lunch organised by the US Chamber of Trade, at which he spoke to US businessmen about the political and economic situation in Croatia. Representatives of several companies showed interest in cooperation. During the event, Racan met briefly with representatives of the AFCO company. Asked about the results of the first day of his visit to the USA, Racan said he was satisfied with the level of support and understanding of senior judicial officials and businessmen towards Croatia. The hosts did not mention Croatia's cooperation with the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague. "This government... is aware of its international commitments, including... cooperation with the ICTY," Racan said. Racan said that after his return to Zagreb next week he would call a meeting of senior state officials, at which he would present an integral draft judicial reform. (hina) rml
