Mesic said that the fact that he and Slovene President Kucan did not
meet was caused by a misunderstanding which had not political
connotations. Mesic said that Slovenia and Croatia had open issues,
adding, however, that all issues could be solved.
He said he believed the two countries' governments would find a
solution. Asked about the demarcation line in Piran Bay, Mesic said
that an agreement between Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan and
his Slovene counterpart Janez Drnovsek was initiated "a little too
early". Both parties to the agreement must be satisfied, he said.
He said the two countries must find a solution through talks.
Croatia's national interest is to keep the border with Italy, while
Slovenia's interest is access to open sea, Mesic said ahead of his
talks with Kucan.
