Police spokeswoman Stanka Saraja told Hina that one person had
contacted the police in connection with the murder, but she did not
reveal the person's identity.
Saraja did not confirm reports that the person who surrendered was
Vinko Zuljevic-Klica, an alleged member of a mob headed by Vjeko
Slisko, who was killed in Zagreb last year. There were unofficial
reports today that Zuljevic is Marinov's possible killer.
An investigation is underway.
Marinov (born in 1967), a Croatian national of Bulgarian origin
linked with organised crime circles, was killed this afternoon in a
Zagreb caf?.
Born in Varna, on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Marinov was
reportedly trained by the Russian intelligence service KGB. At the
beginning of the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, he joined Bosnian Croat
forces and became their spy. He is also known for having been the
body guard and driver of Hague indictee Mladen Naletilic Tuta.
In 2000 and 2001, Bulgaria requested his hand-over on several
occasions for the murder of a Varna prostitute in 1993.
He was tried at the Zagreb County Court for the possession of 250
grams of heroine, but was acquitted after the testimony of several
members of the Croatian intelligence service HIS and the Service
for the Protection of the Constitutional Order.
Marinov was standing trial for organising an international
prostitution chain.
