During the talks, Tomcic expressed satisfaction with the fact that
Austria was the first European Union members country to ratify a
Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between Croatia and
the European Union. Tomcic said that by ratifying the SAA Austria
had once again shown its support to Croatia, the statement said.
During the talks with Austria's head of state, Tomcic said Austria
and Croatia belonged to the same central European civilisation.
President Klestil said the two countries shared the history and
expressed belief they would share the future.
Austria is interested in an active contribution to the stability in
this part of Europe, Klestil said, entirely supporting Croatia's
standpoint that cooperation among countries in the region is
necessary for progress of all countries, but at the same time none
of the countries must be prevented from individual progress in
integration processes.
