"The main reason for our visit was to extend topics and establish
the role of Europe and the West in the Balkans and ask if we are
considered partners or just another convicted prisoner who should
permanently provide proof that he has improved," Djindjic told
reporters.
"If the first assumption is the truth, we want a more sincere
relationship without conditions, and if the second one is the
truth, we want to be told so, however, in that case we will be much
less responsible for the region," he added.
The talks in Washington have resulted in the "unfreezing" of a
USD40-million package of assistance for the current fiscal year,
Djindjic said.
Commenting on the US insistence on the arrest of Ratko Mladic and
Radovan Karadzic, Djindjic said that the Serbian police had neither
enough personnel nor other resources to control the whole border
along the Drina River and that Serbia could not be the only country
responsible for their arrest.
