POREC, May 22 (Hina) - Participants in the Croatian Diaspora
Convention, involving about 30 eminent Croatian emigrants,
returnees and investors, asked on Wednesday that the government and
parliament adopt new laws that, amongst other things, would enable
the Diaspora to be more involved in Croatia's development. #L#
Petar Kruzic from Germany spoke about the topic "Diaspora,
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow".
He emphasised the Croatian Diaspora was aware of its potential and
could not understand why the Croatian policy and economy were not
prepared to accept what the Diaspora had to offer.
Ivica Kamber, a Zadar returnee, believes that with its potential in
capital and know-how, the Croatian Diaspora could take on the role
of a shadow government and restructure Croatia from the inside.
The participants in this first Diaspora convention will make a
recommendation to the government and parliament to adopt a law on
the Diaspora similar to those in Ireland and Israel, to introduce a
Diaspora ministry, and to suspend the sale of national assets until
a new law on privatisation is adopted, as well as to pass a law to
abolish the statute of limitation for crimes committed in the
privatisation process.
The convention was held under the auspices of the International
Club of Croat Emigrants, Returnees and Investors in the Diaspora,
which was founded in Porec two years ago by Niko Soljak. The
honorary president of the club is academician Ivan Supek. Zarko
Dolinar, a renowned scientist and former athlete, is an honorary
member.
