He said the local elections in Kosovska Mitrovica would be held
October 26.
Guehenno said that half a million euros had been secured to deal
with the consequences of the April 24 earthquake in Gnjilane.
This is a good example of how local authorities and the
international community can work well together and rapidly ensure
assistance to those in need, he said and added that this should
serve as an example to everyone of how to resolve Kosovo's
problems.
The Security Council discussed and adopted a report by the leader of
the UN mission to Kosovo, Michael Steiner, and his evaluation that
the constitutional framework for the transitional government and
its election represented a huge success.
The elections, the parliament, the transitional institutions and
government are all the result of the constitutional framework, said
Steiner.
The document came into force a year ago and was put together by a
group of seven Kosovo and six international experts chaired by
Johan Van Lamoen, a world renowned expert for legal systems in
transition countries.
