Tomcic met the President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary
Assembly, Peter Schieder.
"This is a sign that the Council of Europe is confident that Croatia
will continue building democracy, peace and security together with
CoE members. Nevertheless, in spite of that confidence, we are
aware that we still have a lot to do in that direction. I expect that
hosting this conference will motivate us to fulfil other
obligations on time and in good fashion," Tomcic said after the
talks.
Confirming that the Zagreb gathering - which will hold its working
sessions on Friday and Saturday - was an expression of confidence by
the CoE in Croatia as one of its members, Schieder said that he saw
great progress in Croatia in fulfilling its obligations towards the
CoE.
Speaking about the main topic of the conference - the battle against
terrorism - Schieder stressed that the parliaments of European
countries had to see that the battle did not restrict human and
civil rights.
