The deadline for the verification of party lists with the Election
Commission is May 19.
"I don't want to be an obstacle to Croats and HDZ BH in any way. I
personally fully support the new leadership, regardless of who it
is. I also recommend to all sanctioned officials to step aside so
that the party may operate normally in this international
protectorate," Jelavic was quoted as saying.
Besides Jelavic and five HDZ BH Presidency members, more than 100
other officials have to leave the party following a decision by the
international High Representative in Bosnia, who permanently
banned them from political activity and running in elections.
"I believe that the people who will lead the party in the coming
period will resume the struggle for the equal position of Croats in
Bosnia, based on the Novi Travnik Declaration," said Jelavic.
He added the latest constitutional amendments had reduced Bosnian
Croats to second-rank citizens and not one of the country's three
constituent peoples.
HDZ BH should fill in the empty seats in its top ranks next Friday,
as well as resolve the intra-party crisis over participation in the
October elections.
