The situation in the town, where one person was killed and 108
sustained light or serious injuries in the earthquake, has been
normalising. Almost 7,000 people spent last night in the open. A
crisis headquarters said that large amounts of food, clothing and
tents had arrived in the area.
Rugova commended the medical staff at the Gnjilane hospital and all
Kosovo institutions, who have helped normalise the situation with
the assistance of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) and the UN Mission to
Kosovo (UNMIK).
UNMIK spokeswoman Susan Manuel told reporters in Pristina
yesterday that the epicentre of the earthquake was in Partes, a
village in the southern part of Gnjilane municipality. At least 50
houses were damaged in Partes and nearby villages, but there were no
casualties.
