An assistant to the Croatian Mine Action Centre director in charge
of international co-operation, Mirko Ivanusic, and French
Ambassador Francis Bellanger signed an agreement to that effect at
Vucedol on Wednesday.
According to Ivanusic, the implementation of the third, i.e.
second-last phase of mine-clearance at Vucedol, will cost about
EUR156,000. Half the required funds will be secured through support
from France, while the other half will be taken from the state
budget, Ivanusic said.
We hope that our support for mine-clearance at Vucedol will help not
only in the development of art and culture but tourism and economy
as well, Bellanger said after the signing. He added that in 2001
alone France earmarked around EUR150,000 through the International
Trust Fund for mine-clearance in Croatia and other neighbouring
countries.
It was at this site that in 1938 the famous Vucedol Dove figurine,
the symbol of Vukovar, was discovered.
