Speaking about his three-hour talks with Russian President
Vladimir Putin, Mesic told reporters they focused on economic
issues. As for his visit to the Duma and his talks with its president
Genadi Seleznyov, he said the talks tackled parliamentary
cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy.
Economy Minister Hrvoje Vojkovic told the same press conference the
talks between the Croatian and Russian delegations, besides the
Druzba Adria project, tackled Russia's clearing debt to Croatia and
Croatian oil company INA's White Nights fields in Siberia.
Russia acknowledges the debt to Croatia, Vojkovic said, adding that
one of the possibilities of settling one part of it was through the
demining of the Slavonija region in eastern Croatia, a project
which would be undertaken by the Russian company Enercon, which has
trained personnel and equipment.
The Russians would also like to participate in the privatisation of
INA and the Janaf pipeline, Vojkovic said.
He added Russia had proposed the building of 300 ships in Croatian
shipyards as part of the renewal of the Russian commercial fleet.
Croatia will draw up concrete proposals within the next two weeks.
Vojkovic said the project was very likely to come through.
The general assessment the Croatian delegation has made of the
talks held on the first of a three-day visit to the Russian
Federation is very positive. The delegation is glad about
indications that the visit will encourage the bolstering and
development of bilateral economic relations.
