In the letter, the two ministers pointed out significant progress
achieved in relations regarding the Prevlaka peninsula and the
demarcation of borders in general, which, they said, was the
continuation of a joint foreign policy action started in New York
last December.
The progress achieved is also the result of intensive talks between
Croatia and Yugoslavia after Svilanovic's visit to Zagreb last
December, the letter writes.
The two ministers accentuate the strengthening of good neighbourly
relations, which has been proven by accepting stances on the
principles on the identification and demarcation of borders,
establishing former inter-state borders as borders between
countries.
The two ministers stressed readiness to begin negotiations in
Belgrade soon about a comprehensive border regime which would
encompass border traffic concerning people and goods, navigation,
natural resources management, demilitarisation, as well as
bilateral mechanisms of the regime control. Such a regime would
create conditions for ending the mandate of the UN monitoring
mission on Prevlaka.
