OSIJEK, April 4 (Hina) - MP and retired Croatian Army general
Branimir Glavas on Thursday reported that the Administrative Court
took heed of his appeal and annulled a June 2000 government decision
which disputed his status as a war invalid following an automobile
accident in January 1992. #L#
At a press conference held Thursday, Glavas presented the
Administrative Court ruling which notes that at the time of the
accident Glavas was on duty as a commander of the defence of Osijek
and was on his way to Zagreb after being summonsed by the Croatian
Army General Staff to attend a meeting of military commanders from
several regions of Croatia. This indicates that he was on duty
adhering to an order by the General Staff.
Glavas said that in June 2000, War Veterans Minister Ivica Pancic
opened an "orchestrated political affair of fake war invalids",
accusing 18 veterans, of whom seven were Croatian Army generals, of
being false war invalids.
Glavas emphasised that following two years in the courts, his
innocence had been proven. He claimed that the incident was just
another attempt "by the current communist government to
criminalise participants of the Homeland War and to humiliate those
who personified the all-round Croatian struggle for statehood and
national independence".
