Wednesday met General Chi Haotian, Vice-President of the Military
Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, State
Advisor and Defence Minister of the National Republic of China, a

President Mesic expressed his satisfaction at the Chinese
delegation's visit stressing that this was yet another sign of the
positive relations between the two countries. The Chinese minister
relayed Chinese President Jiang Zemin's regards adding that the
Chinese government, people and armed forces have always attributed
great significance to relations with the Republic of Croatia, the
statement continues.
The Chinese defence minister said that the Croatian Army formations
he visited were well trained, disciplined and well equipped. Chi
Haotian spoke about development in China, specifying that the
struggle against poverty had still not been won despite positive
achievements.
He stressed that China valued Croatia's contribution to
stabilising circumstances in the region. The Chinese minister
agreed with President Mesic that no problems existed in relations
between the two countries but rather common interests.
