Mesic said he hoped that changes in Yugoslavia's internal
organisation and the regulation of new relations between Serbia and
Montenegro would "bring about progress and facilitate" a solution
to the Prevlaka issue.
Diplomatic circles say that Croatia and Montenegro could in July
ask together for the completion of the U.N. mandate on Prevlaka.
Annan expressed satisfaction that Croatia was already thinking
about Prevlaka as a tourist destination, and said that he would
gladly spend his vacations there.
Mesic invited Annan to visit Croatia firstly as the U.N. Secretary-
General, which he accepted in principle.
The visit would happen this year, but the date still has to be set.
Annan was also interested in Croatia's views on the situation in
Kosovo and the effect of the changes in Yugoslavia on Kosovo's
relations with Serbia.
They both agreed that time and assistance were necessary for the
strengthening of government institutions, and that one should
insist on a more consistent respect for the rights of all Kosovo
citizens.
