ZAGREB, March 7 (Hina) - About a hundred workers of Slatina's Duhan tobacco company protested in front of the government building Thursday, but went home after Prime Minister Ivica Racan promised to help them solve their problems. The
workers staged the protest because their company was allegedly illegally taken over by a broker company. They demanded that 60 percent of Duhan's shares, reserved for small shareholders pursuant to a government decision, be given back to them. The protesters claim that Rovinj's tobacco factory is behind all of this and wishes to eliminate independent tobacco producers. The Rovinj factory refuted the claims today, asserting that it has no interest in taking over Duhan, not even for the price of one kuna.(hina) lml sb
