ZAGREB, Feb 27 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament resumes its session on Thursday with a debate on a final bill of amendments to the law on islands and the government's proposal for the privatisation of the oil industry INA and the
power supply company HEP. Despite objection from the opposition, the agenda has been expanded to include bills on the privatisation of INA and HEP. The opposition maintains the privatisation of the two largest state-owned companies is too important to be discussed "in haste". The Istrian Democratic Assembly (IDS) has said the two companies employ a total of 40,000 people, and that privatisation will have to result in layoffs. The Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) maintains the government has a duty to seek the consent of the social partners for the privatisation of the two companies.
