SARAJEVO/BANJA LUKA, Feb 26 (Hina) - The U.S. government has
requested Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica to take immediate
action to prevent the inflow of money to former Bosnian Serb leader
Radovan Karadzic, the Banja Luka weekly Reporter said on Tuesday.
This information was confirmed by the United States Embassy in
Belgrade, the weekly says, adding an investigation has shown that a
hefty portion of Karadzic's financial support is ensured through
the Yugoslav oil company Jugopetrol. This firm has allegedly leased
some of its gas stations, which make a lot of money, to Karadzic's
younger brother Luka under favourable conditions.
It is expected Karadzic's security will virtually fall apart once
the influx of money, used to buy loyalty to the currently most
wanted war criminal, is severed.
The U.S. government has allegedly threatened the Yugoslav
authorities with sanctions against Jugopetrol unless it
immediately severed all "business activities" helping Karadzic.
