ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - Retail prices in Croatia in January 2002 were 0.8 percent higher than in December 2001. Living expenses at the same time grew by 1.1 percent, the State Bureau of Statistics said in a statement on Monday. In
relation to January 2001, retail prices in the first month of 2002 increased by 3.3 and living expenses by 3.2 percent. In January 2002, the prices of goods increased by 0.5 and those of services by 1.4 percent in relation to December 2001. The biggest increase in prices was noted with agricultural products - a 9.1 percent increase without and of eight percent including seasonal products. Industrial products became by 0.3 percent more expensive. Retail prices of tobacco remained at December's level, while prices of beverages rose by 2.6 percent. A 7.5 percent increase in the prices of financial and other services
(car check-up and insurance) had the most impact on the increase of
the prices of services.
As for living expenses, costs of goods for January 2002 rose by one
percent in relation to December 2001, and those of services by 1.7
percent.
Such a movement of living expenses is the consequence of a 3.1
percent increase in the prices of transport means and services
(gas, rail traffic, car check-up and repair).
On the annual level, the retail prices of goods rose by one percent
in relation to January 2001, and the prices of services by 11.5
percent. Such an increase in the prices of services in January 2002
as against January 2001 was affected by an increase in the prices of
postal and telecommunication services of 53.5 percent, financial
and other services of 19.6 percent, transport services of 10.4
percent, and public utilities of eight percent.
Regarding living expenses, costs of goods rose by 1.9 percent, and
of services by 9.4 percent as against January 2001.
