ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) Ivo Sanader told Monday's news conference the party's thesis that the ruling five-party coalition is entering a period of very unstable relations and deep
crisis, which it will not be able to pull out of, was being confirmed. The crisis in the country is also becoming increasingly profound, he stated. According to Sanader, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has the leading role in the coalition, and is claiming merit of what little good has been done, while all coalition partners should bear responsibility for bad moves, the number of which is considerably higher. There are no consequences to bear for bad moves, while the wish for power is prevailing over the wish to settle difficulties in Croatia, and the crisis deepens, Sanader stated, recalling that unemployment in the country has reached a record high since 1952. ZAGREB, Jan 28 (Hina) - President of the Croatian Democratic Union
(HDZ) Ivo Sanader told Monday's news conference the party's thesis
that the ruling five-party coalition is entering a period of very
unstable relations and deep crisis, which it will not be able to
pull out of, was being confirmed. The crisis in the country is also
becoming increasingly profound, he stated.
According to Sanader, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has the
leading role in the coalition, and is claiming merit of what little
good has been done, while all coalition partners should bear
responsibility for bad moves, the number of which is considerably
higher. There are no consequences to bear for bad moves, while the
wish for power is prevailing over the wish to settle difficulties in
Croatia, and the crisis deepens, Sanader stated, recalling that
unemployment in the country has reached a record high since 1952.
Commenting on recent claims made by his deputy Maja Freundlich
during her stay in Los Angeles and her meeting with Croatian
emigrants in the United States, Sanader said that, if her words were
correctly relayed, they were not on the path of the HDZ's policy,
but fit into a scenario in line with which the HDZ would be described
as an extremist and radical party.
"The HDZ is and will not be that, which is clearly stated in the
declaration of the 5th general assembly where the HDZ's
consolidating began, and will be completed at the 7th general
assembly. The HDZ is a centrist party and has no detachment towards
radicalism and extremism," Sanader asserted.
If her words are authentic, the party will find an appropriate
response, he said in reply to a reporter's question.
Freundlich reportedly promised Croatian emigrants in the USA that,
when the HDZ is reinstated in power, it would initiate proceedings
against President Stjepan Mesic, "the veiled witness for The Hague,
traitor of his own homeland and Croatian generals". The media have
reported that she had also announced Prime Minister Ivica Racan
would also be called to assume responsibility since he "was not
supposed to accept the indictments against generals Ademi and
Gotovina".
She accused both Mesic and Racan of carrying out a policy aimed at
"undermining the meaning and content of the Homeland Defence War,
and lead Croatia into a Balkan union."
Sanader hailed the accession of Bosnia-Herzegovina into the
Council of Europe, as this will make it possible for Bosnian Croats
to more successfully defend their equality and constitutive
quality in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the Council's bodies.
