ZAGREB, Jan 15 (Hina) - The Kutina-based Petrokemija company could
by February 15 at the latest receive gas and begun functioning
again, the Croatian government concluded on Thursday, denouncing
attempts of politicisation of the case, and requesting a report
from the company's management and Supervisory Board on
responsibility in the Petrokemija case.
At today's session the government was informed about the situation
in the gas system, especially regarding problems in Kutina's
Petrokemija, to which the state oil company INA has ceased its gas
supply in December 10 of last year.
Due to the fact that the artificial fertiliser factory is not
working, possible are problems in supply, so the government
committed the economy and agriculture ministries to suggest
measures for the stabilisation of the market, that is, to secure the
necessary licenses for import, and temporarily abolish customs
tariffs on artificial fertiliser.
Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic stressed that at the beginning of
next week when temperatures are expected to rise, Petrokemija could
be supplied with a certain amount of gas.
Through coordinated measures of INA and the Croatian Electric
Supply Industry (HEP), conditions could be met for Petrokemija to
receive gas and begin working with full capacity by February 4,
Fizulic said, and added that in the case of a new "cold wave", the
plan could possibly be postponed.
Denouncing the politicisation of the entire case, vice-Premier
Goran Granic said all those calling for citizens to block roads and
cause unrest should be clearly decried.
Government members also warned about the need for long-term
solutions to the gas supply problem, the need to create transport
capacities towards Hungary and North Adriatic, for which at least
two years would be needed.
The also stressed that the administrative management of the price
of gas should be abolished, and the Economy Ministry was suggested
to clearly state which corporate subjects would be shut down next
winter.
