ZAGREB, Jan 13 (Hina) - The defence of Tihomir Blaskic, a Bosnian Croat general whom the Hague war crimes tribunal sentenced to 45 years in prison for crimes committed in central Bosnia, will appeal the verdict on Monday, the Jutarnji
List daily said on Sunday. The appeal is based on new documents found in the archives of the Croatian Intelligence Service (HIS), the Croatian President's Office, and the headquarters of the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Quoting the defence, Jutarnji List claims these documents show that Blaskic, although formally the top commander of the HVO, the Croat component of the armed forces of Bosnia's Croat-Muslim entity, did not have full control over HVO units. He did know about or order the 1993 crime against Muslims in the central Bosnian village of Ahmici, the daily says.
