SARAJEVO, Jan 4 (Hina) - The governments of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina are nearing a compromise on the joint management of the Ploce port, the Sarajevo-based daily Dnevni avaz said on Friday. The daily quoted Croatia's Ambassador

SARAJEVO, Jan 4 (Hina) - The governments of Croatia and Bosnia-
Herzegovina are nearing a compromise on the joint management of the
Ploce port, the Sarajevo-based daily Dnevni avaz said on Friday.
The daily quoted Croatia's Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina, Josip
Vrbosic, as saying it was possible now the two sides could draw up a
special annex to the Contract on the Ploce Port, which would define
the new composition of the port's management board.
According to the existing contract, the port's management board is
made up of seven members, three from each country and a foreign
national.
Vrbosic says his impression after talks with some members of the
Bosnian Council of Ministers is that Sarajevo, too, is ready to find
a mutually acceptable solution through the "cancellation" of the
seventh member of the management board.
In case this solution is adopted, the management board would no
longer include the foreign representative, who has the final say in
disputes between the two sides, which would eliminate the main
reason why the ratification of the contract on Ploce by the Croatian
parliament has been stalled.
Nevertheless, the authorities in Sarajevo believe it is necessary
that the Croatian parliament first ratify the contract, after which
its amending can start.
The settlement of possible disputes among the members of the port's
management board will be within the jurisdiction of the Hamburg-
based international court for maritime law.
Should this agreement become final, the settlement of the Ploce
port dispute, including the ratification of the contract and the
drawing up of a special annex, could be expected by the end of
January.
