ZAGREB, Dec 31 (Hina) - A freight plane carrying 15 tons of Croatian humanitarian aid for the victims of the recent disastrous earthquake in Iran took off from Zagreb's Pleso airport at 1320 hours on Wednesday.

The relief, worth EUR1.5 million, was sent by the government and
leading Croatian companies, Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor told
reporters at Pleso, adding that the shipment, flying aboard a hired
Ukrainian plane, consisted of clothes, food, tents, and water
purifiers.
The aid also includes Pliva's antibiotics, Podravka's children's food,
and 500 sleeping bags, blankets and medicines supplied by Belupo.
The plane's destination is Zahedan, the closest airport to Bam, the
Iranian city hit by the quake.
Kosor said that doctors and forensics would be sent to Iran too if
necessary.
Foreign Minister Miomir Zuzul said today's shipment was only part of
the relief Croatia was sending to Iran that would soon be followed by
another submitted by the Red Cross and a number of Croatian companies.
He also thanked the Croatians who made personal donations through the
Red Cross.
Iran's Ambassador to Croatia Jafar Shamsian thanked the Croatian
government for the prompt reaction and sending relief to the victims,
which he said indicated that Croatia-Iran relations were good.
He added that according to the latest data, more than 30,000 people
were killed and 50,000 were wounded in the earthquake which struck
southeastern Iran on Friday.
Reporters were also addressed by Agrokor CEO Ivica Todoric, who spoke
on behalf of his company, Podravka, Koncar, Zagreb Airport, Belupo,
and Croatia Airlines.
