CONVICTED CROATIAN SERBS GRANTED CITIZENSHIP OF SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO

BELGRADE, Dec 27 (Hina) - Fifty-eight Croatian Serbs found guilty by Croatian courts of committing war crimes during the 1990s war in Croatia and serving their sentences in the Lepoglava prison have been granted citizenships of Serbia and the union of Serbia and Montenegro, the Serbian government said on Friday.
BELGRADE, Dec 27 (Hina) - Fifty-eight Croatian Serbs found guilty by Croatian courts of committing war crimes during the 1990s war in Croatia and serving their sentences in the Lepoglava prison have been granted citizenships of Serbia and the union of Serbia and Montenegro, the Serbian government said on Friday.#L# The decision will enable the convicts to be transferred to Serbia to serve their sentences there. This issue was discussed by former Croatian justice minister Ingrid Anticevic Marinovic and her Serbian counterpart Vladan Batic during their recent meeting in Belgrade. The transfer of convicts is regulated by the European Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons. The convention applies to both Croatia and Serbia-Montenegro as members of the Council of Europe. (Hina) vm
