commented on a press report saying that fire-fighting aeroplane
pilots were leaving the ministry unhappy with their pay. #L#
Commenting on the claim in an article that the pilots were given a
flat-rate amount of only 230 kuna (about 30 euros) per day for their
overtime regardless of the number of hours they put in, Defence
Ministry spokesman Davor Denkovski said that the amount reflected
the ministry's financial abilities.
Denkovski confirmed that three of the six captains had applied for
retirement, and that one application had been granted. He added
that it was quite certain that other applications would also be
granted.
The spokesman said he had no information about any of the pilots
having sued the ministry as alleged in the press.
According to the article, the pilots complained of poor care by the
ministry and said that during the fire season last summer they spent
10 to 11 hours in the air per day, noting that the upper limit was
seven hours.
