"Croatia's foreign policy will not change. Its strategic goals,
including membership in the European Union and NATO, will remain
the same and Croatia will step up efforts to achieve them," Mesic
said.
The two officials met on the sidelines of the World Summit on the
Information Society in Geneva.
Mesic said that they discussed open issues between the two
countries, including the return of refugees and the restitution of
property to legal and physical persons.
Also discussed was economic cooperation, particularly in the
electricity sector and road construction.
Mesic also met Romanian President Ion Illiescu for talks on
bilateral cooperation.
The Croatian president is travelling to Russia on December 14 for a
three-day visit at the invitation of his Russian counterpart,
Vladimir Putin. Mesic will be the first head of state to meet the
Russian leader after last Sunday's parliamentary election in the
country.
Mesic told reporters in Geneva he and Putin would discuss future
cooperation between Croatia and Russia.
